Frequently asked questions
Everything you want to know about vocal coaching, workshops and live music at The Tunes of Jooiz.
Vocal coaching
Do I need to be able to sing to take singing lessons?
Not at all! Whether you are discovering your voice for the first time or have been singing for years: you are welcome. We start where you are now and explore together what your voice needs to keep developing.
Are the singing lessons also suitable for experienced singers?
Definitely! Experienced singers can discover new possibilities too. We work on things like vocal technique, breath coordination, registers, tone colour, dynamics, interpretation and vocal freedom. We look not only at what you can already do, but above all at what there is still to discover.
Which music styles can I sing with you?
From jazz, soul and pop to musical, gospel, rock and classical influences. Different genres call for different vocal skills. We explore how you can use your voice in a versatile way, without losing your own musical identity.
What does a vocal coaching session look like?
Every session is tailored to your voice, experience and goals. We combine focused exercises with singing music that suits you. You also get practical pointers so you can keep practising on your own.
Can I take a trial lesson first?
Of course! A trial lesson is a lovely way to get to know my way of working. We explore your voice, talk about your wishes and look at which next steps suit you. That way you can experience for yourself whether my style of coaching is right for you.
What is the difference between the singing packages?
The packages Basis, Basis+, Verdiepend and Artistry: Basic offer different ways to work on your vocal development. Which package suits you best depends on your experience, ambitions and the guidance you are looking for. I am happy to think along with you.
Are online singing lessons as valuable as lessons in the studio?
Online vocal coaching offers plenty of room to work on your vocal technique, musicality and expression. In the studio we can also work more directly on things like sound, posture and performance. Both have their own advantages.
Do I need to be able to read music?
Not at all! A musical ear, curiosity and a willingness to discover are a wonderful starting point. Where needed, we include basic music knowledge in the lessons.
Do I have to perform during my vocal programme?
No, performing is not required. For some singers a final performance is a wonderful challenge, while others prefer to grow at their own pace in a familiar setting. Your personal development comes first.
Is vocal coaching also possible for children and young people?
There are options for young voices too. I take age, musical development, vocal load and the joy of singing into account. The guidance fits what a young singer needs at that moment.
Workshops
Can I book a singing workshop for my own group?
Yes! Both live and online workshops are organised on request. Think of a group of friends, a choir, a vocal group, a team or another musical occasion. The content is tailored to the participants and their experience.
Which singing workshops do you offer?
You can choose from Basic singing techniques and Harmony singing, among others. From discovering the possibilities of your own voice to building harmonies together. We tailor the workshop to the level and wishes of the group.
Do we need singing experience to take part in a workshop?
Not necessarily! A workshop can be set up to be accessible for beginners, but can also offer depth for experienced singers. Singing together, listening and discovering are at the heart of it.
Live music & bookings
For which occasions can I book The Tunes of Jooiz?
From intimate gatherings and dinners to weddings, anniversaries, company parties and larger events. The music is tailored to the atmosphere, the audience and the character of your occasion.
Can I choose from different line-ups?
Yes! Depending on the occasion, different line-ups are possible, from an intimate musical setting to a full live band. For larger productions I personally put together a suitable line-up of musicians.
Can I request music or favourite songs myself?
Absolutely! Music makes an occasion personal. We discuss your musical wishes and look at what is suitable and feasible within the chosen line-up and preparation.
How is the price of a live performance determined?
The price depends on things like the line-up, playing time, location and technical requirements. You receive a tailor-made proposal, so you know in advance what to expect.
Practical questions
Can I give vocal coaching as a gift?
Yes! With a gift voucher from The Tunes of Jooiz you give someone the chance to discover or further develop their voice. A personal gift for anyone who loves to sing.
How can I request a lesson, workshop or performance?
You can easily share your wishes via the contact form on the website. Whether it is personal vocal coaching, a workshop or live music: I am happy to look at the possibilities with you.
Do I need to buy anything for the lessons?
You do not need to buy anything beforehand. During the lessons I introduce you to tools that suit your voice, such as the Lax Vox. Would you like to practise with it at home too? You can order it with one click.
Have you been singing for a while? Then I also recommend the Universal Voice Straw. With the holes you choose how much back-pressure you want, so you can train your range and high notes in a focused way. And because you don't need water, you can take it anywhere to warm up.
What is the difference between Lax Vox and the straw, and what are they good for?
Both are so-called semi-occluded exercises: you sing through a narrow opening, which creates a gentle back-pressure. That back-pressure helps your vocal folds vibrate with less effort. As a result you sing more relaxed, your breath feels easier and your voice sounds fuller.
- Lax Vox (tube in a bottle of water): the bubbles give a light 'massage' and are very relaxing. Lovely as a warm-up, as a cool-down after singing and at moments when your voice feels tired.
- Universal Voice Straw (straw): you don't need water, so you can take it anywhere. With the holes you choose how much back-pressure you want. Great for warming up, practising your range with slides and learning to sing high notes with ease.
In short: Lax Vox mainly to relax and care for your voice, the straw mainly to train on the go. In the lessons I'll show you which one suits you best.
